How the outsourcing of farm labor influences the adoption of sustainable farming practices 

Sophie started out her research with her MSc thesis in the Agrifood Economics Group. She investigated how gender influences the adoption of sustainable farming practices in Wallonia. For her MSc thesis, she was awarded with the 2025 HERA prize for sustainable food systems. Among other things, this study highlighted that women farmers tend to rely on the outsourcing of their farming practices. In her PhD, she is now investigating how the outsourcing of farm labor influences farming practices in field crops in Wallonia and in Europe. She will use both quantitative and qualitative analyses to bring a deeper understanding into how farm labor is evolving and its potential impact on European agriculture.
